Alcohol does not contain any nutrients beneficial to health.

There are no safe limits for alcohol, but less is best. Alcohol is high in calories, can promote snacking and increases your risk of falling.

If you do drink alcohol:

  • Drink alcohol in small quantities, spread across the week
  • Have at least 2 alcohol free days in the week

Weekly limits

  • 17 standard drinks for men
  • 11 standard drinks for women

One standard drink equals a ½ pint of beer/lager, a small glass of wine or one single measure of spirits.
