No Fry Zone 4 Kids

The "no fry zones" amendment has been accepted in the Wicklow County Development Plan 2016 – 2022. Councillors voted at a meeting on Monday, with 25 councillors supporting the plan and only 3 rejecting the plan.

The first of its kind in Ireland, the no fry zone campaign has been active for over 3 years. It ensures that fast food outlets cannot be built or operate within 400m of schools or playgrounds.

The distance of 400m is based on scientific evidence from studies in the United States, United Kingdom and Scandinavia. This distance has been effective in other countries and it is hoped it will help reduce obesity levels in children in Ireland.
