Adopting a healthy lifestyle helps reduce the risk of dementia

New guidelines published by the WHO provides recommendations on how people can reduce their risk of developing dementia.

The guidelines are:

  • Regular exercise, eating a healthy diet and keeping a healthy weight
  • Quitting smoking and avoiding heavy alcohol intake
  • Cognitive interventions
  • Social activity  
  • Be aware or high blood pressure and high cholesterol as they are associated with dementia
  • Get treated if you have diabetes
  • Avoid vitamin pills as there is no substantial evidence that they lower dementia risk
