The rising cost of a healthy diet

A new study has found the cost of eating healthy foods has soared 91% while the cost of high-calorie processed foods has fallen. The study looked at the cost of different food items over the last 30 years in many countries across the world. Ireland was not included in the study.

In the UK the price of ice cream has halved while the cost of fruit and vegetables have increased by 199% since 1980. Similar trends are reported in Mexico, Brazil, China and Korea. These trends are likely to be contributing the obesity epidemic which can be seen in every country currently. It also helpes explain why diets are becoming less healthy in many countries.
