Recent Headlines in the Media about Breastfeeding

A recent “analysis” piece in the British Medical Journal by Mary Fewtrell and colleagues about breastfeeding received a lot of media attention. The paper claimed to review the evidence on current recommendations for UK mothers to exclusively breastfeed for six months and asked if it was time for a reappraisal of the advice.

However, as responses to the article point out, the review was not a systematic review but was based on research selected by the authors, with some respected researchers in the area of infant feeding questioning the comprehensiveness of the review and findings.
