Healthy diets save lives

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has released an infographic looking at how many of the 53 WHO member countries in Europe are achieving nutrition goals.

The infographic shows that none of the 53 countries in the region acheive the WHO recommendation of comsuming less than 5g of salt per day. Only five countries achieve the recommendation to keep saturated fat to 10% of calories consumed or less per day.

Based on these findings the WHO have highlighted some actions to improve the current situation, these include:

  • Advancing salt-reduction initiatives
  • Eliminating trans fat from the food supply
  • Restricting food marketing to children
  • Promoting easily visible product labelling
  • Providing support for obesity management
