From Shift Work to Shifting the Pounds:The Value of a Healthy Workforce

A workshop hosted by the All-island Obesity Action Forum supported by safefood and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Northern Ireland and the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. 

Aim of the Workshop

The workshop will highlight the importance of a healthy workforce while examining the key challenges and issues involved in achieving this with a particular focus on shift workers. Guest speakers include Professor Tom Cox, Institute of Work, Health and Organisations, University of Nottingham and Dr Phil Tucker, Department of Psychology, University of Swansea. The workshop will also explore the challenges in implementing a workplace programme and showcase successful initiatives from across the island of Ireland. 

Who should attend?

Key stakeholders in obesity-related areas, physical activity and food such as those working in government departments, government agencies, health bodies, professional bodies, voluntary organisations, community groups, academia and industry.

The Riddel Hall at Queens University Belfast is situated 2km from Belfast City Centre at 185 Stranmillis Road, Belfast, BT9 5EE. 

By car:

  • Start from the back of Belfast City Hall (May Street) turn left onto Bedford Street and continue onto the Dublin Road leading on University Road
  • Passing Queens University Belfast on your left take the next left at the traffic lights onto Stranmillis Road and continue for 1km
  • 250 yards before the road sweeps right, turn right through the large brick gates and proceed up the drive to the venue. Free parking is available

By rail and air:

Taxis are available from both Belfast Central station and Belfast City Airport. Journey time is between 10-15 minutes.
