Nuts to Hallowe’en treats

Aileen gets all poetic on us this week and wonders if kids need so many treats at Hallowe’en…

Hallowe’en is my favourite night,

I love a scare and relish a fright.

The wizards, the witches, the ghosts and the ghouls,

The monsters, the skeletons and zombies rule.

Mother and daughter dressed as witchesOff in the night armed with buckets and bags,

To knock on the doors and bring back the swag.

The chocolate and crisps, the lollies and jellies,

An out-and-out feast for our kids’ little bellies.

But it wasn’t like this, when we were their age,

Apples and oranges, or nuts were the rage.

We bobbed for apples, or passed them round under chins,

Ghost stories scared us out of our skin.

The shops are full of Hallowe’en delights,

But how much do they need to make it a night?

Do kids need that junk to make the night complete?

This year, why not cut back on their Hallowe’en treats?
