Road(show) to success

January. Dark, cold, wintery; just doom and gloom really. Thankfully today marks the first day of spring and an escape from my least favourite month. But I’m being a bit harsh really, January’s not all bad! After all, it’s the one time of year people promise themselves to do something that will affect their lives positively. No, I’m not talking about hitting the sales; New Year’s resolutions of course!
I made two resolutions this year: 1). Procrastinate less, which I’m hoping to start in October or so, and 2). Exercise more and eat a bit healthier. The second resolution is one of the most common New Year’s resolutions made. After the excess of eating and drinking throughout the festive period, some people relish the detox of January. Others struggle immensely, and tend to give up after the first week or two. I normally find myself in the latter group, despite my good intentions.
But not this year! No, this year I’m committing to it, and I’m using Operation Transformation to guide me. And judging by the number of OT groups and fans on the OT Facebook page, I’m certainly not alone in that either. Operation Transformation has grown from strength to strength over its 6 series, and is certainly something safefood is proud to sponsor. The daily meal plans, exercise videos and weekly weigh-in empower those of us watching from the comfort of our couches to get involved and copy the leaders in their lifestyle change.
But it’s not just about individual change. After all, when it comes to weight loss, the more the merrier! This community feel is a big cause of the success of Operation Transformation. Not only has a community evolved online through Facebook and the Buddy+ system in, over 200 Operation Transformation groups have formed in towns, villages, workplaces and sports clubs on the island of Ireland. The leaders themselves rely on their local community to accompany them in walks and offer them support and motivation throughout their mission. So with such a community spirit present in ‘Operation Transformation’, it only made sense to roll out our ‘Operation Transformation’ roadshows!
The aim of the roadshow is to help people get involved in healthy eating and physical activity in a fun, interactive and engaging way. We have games, quizzes, practical advice and of course, a live exercise with Karl Henry and the OT leaders at each location. The roadshow has already visited Cork and Limerick and we’ll be hitting Enniskillen tomorrow, with roadshows in Newbridge and Blanchardstown on the 8th and 15th of February.

So come along and join in the fun! And don’t give up on those New Year’s Resolutions just because it’s now February - if the weather still feels like January, then you can just act like it’s still January!
If you’d like to set up your own Operation Transformation group, gather together, take a video of yourselves and mail the video with your leader and group info to
