The Demonstration Programme of Community Food Initiatives was officially launched by Northern Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer, Michael McBride.
The Programme aims to improve the availability and accessibility of healthy food for low-income groups at a local level using a community development approach.
Seven projects from across the island of Ireland have been awarded funding under this Programme, which will provide a testing ground for community food initiatives to identify the resources and supports necessary for their development on a sustainable basis.
The recipients of the Community Food Initiative Funding are:
East Belfast Healthy Eating Education Programme (Belfast)
Limerick Seed to Plate Project (Limerick)
Food for Life (Derry/Londonderry)
KASI Community Garden (Killarney)
Footprints Women’s Centre Building a Transition Community (Belfast)
The Food Garden Project (Dundalk)
Food Focus Community Food Initiative (Cork)
This Programme is funded by safefood and managed by Healthy Food for All.
