Tackling Food Poverty

Health professionals, policy makers, researchers and community groups gathered in Dundalk on Wednesday, November 5 to discuss ways of tackling food poverty on the island of Ireland.
The conference showcased the results of two safefood funded projects:
- Decent Food for All – Food Poverty and Obesity: A Broader Approach for a more Balanced Diet (Dr. Kevin Balanda, Institute of Public Health)
- Diet, Nutrient Intake and Attitudes among Disadvantaged Groups on the island of Ireland (Dr. John Kearney & Dr. Dan McCartney, Dublin Institute of Technology).
In an interesting and informative day, the delegates had plenty of opportunity to debate the issues during presentations, workshops, and panel discussions.
The workshops focussed around the theme of how current evidence on food poverty can be used to tackle the issue at community level.
