16th October 2007: Since 2002, over 13, 500 Transition Year students from 310 schools in the Republic of Ireland have successfully completed the safefood for Life food safety training programme. The course has proven very popular among students and earlier today, Tuesday, 16th October, safefood launched a new interactive CD Rom, which will ensure that Transition Year students will have access to food safety information and training at the touch of a button. Local consumers still not eating their greens 1/7/2009

12 February 2008: While people here are aware of the health benefits of a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, consumers are still eating significantly less than they should. The safefood Kid’s Food Challenge is designed to provide parents with an alternative reward system in their children’s diet other than unhealthy treat foods. 6 March 2007: Earlier today, safefood launched the Kid’s Food Challenge, a practical and fun wall chart designed to encourage parents and their children to adopt healthier eating habits. The Consumer Attitudes to Food Standards Survey revealed that 67% of parents in Northern Ireland were making a special effort to avoid or reduce children’s consumption of foods containing fat and sugar¹ and 90% of respondents agreed that parents should help children eat healthily².  The aim of the safefood Kid’s Food Challenge is to provide parents with an alternative reward system for their children other than unhealthy treat foods. safefood research finds eggs produced on the island of Ireland almost totally free from Salmonella 1/12/2009

4th April 2007: Results of a survey commissioned by safefood have shown that eggs produced on the island of Ireland are almost totally free from Salmonella. Just two egg samples from over 5, 000 samples surveyed contained Salmonella in the shell. No egg contents were contaminated. Read More
