Deciphering food labelling
This food labelling resource aims to give students a better understanding of food labels and how to use them to make healthy and safe food choices
The resource is a direct result of a recommendation of an expert working group established by the Minister for Agriculture and Food (ROI) in 2002. It was developed in ROI in conjunction with the Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) support service and in conjunction with the Council for Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in NI.
Age: Junior Cycle, SPHE (Social, Personal and Health Education) in ROI and Key Stage 3 and 4 Home Economics in NI
Topics Covered: Food labelling, Nutrients, the Food Pyramid (ROI) / Balance of Good Health (NI) and Food additives
Format: The book provides three lessons: “What is a food label?” “Knowing your nutrients” and “The Food Pyramid & Food Additives” (ROI) or “The Balance of Good Health & Food Additives” (NI).
