Cleaning the fridge

Keeping your fridge clean is important to prevent the spread of bacteria and to keep food safe as bacteria can survive in the fridge for some time. The information below contains a few cool rules on keeping your fridge a safe place to store your food.

The meaning of cleaning:

  • Clean your fridge regularly, especially the fridge handle, shelves and storage compartments
  • Dry thoroughly with a clean towel or kitchen roll
  • Wipe up spills immediately
  • Wash all surfaces thoroughly with warm, soapy water, then rinse clean
  • Avoid using cleaning products that may pass on taste to food, or damage your fridge’s interior finish or door seals
  • Once a week throw out foods that have passed their ‘use by’ date
