Bord Bia have released a new report on the food attitudes, shopping and cooking trends of adults in the Republic of Ireland.
Face-to-face interviews were conducted with over 1,000 adults aged 15 years or older. Data collection took place between June and July 2015.
Main findings from the study include:
- 92% of respondents agree that it is important to eat properly to be healthy
- 46% of respondents said they were often confused about what they should eat to stay healthy
- One quarter of respondents are concerned about their children becoming obese (26%)
- 71% of people reported trying to avoid sugary foods and sweets
- Over half (58%) of respondents believe that low-fat or reduced-fat products are always a healthy choice
- Over half (55%) of respondents check the nutrition label on foods before buying them
- Over 50% of respondents have difficulty in understanding the nutritional claims on packaging
