Grilled pork chops with apple sauce, potatoes and green beans

Traditional superfood recipe – vegetables

Getting your 5-a-day?  Sometimes it can be hard work to get all the fruit and vegetables you need to be healthy but adding vegetables to a main meal can make all the difference. Try this recipe as an easy way to help you introduce more vegetables into your daily diet.

Ingredients

  • One pork chop per person
  • Salt and pepper for seasoning
  • Potatoes
  • Green beans
  • 1 teaspoon of apple sauce
Method

1. Pre-heat the grill for 10 minutes
2. Trim off any excess fat
3. Season with pepper if desired
4. Cook on a hot grill for about 5 minutes each side
5. Check that the juices run clear and there is no pink meat
6. Serve with seasonal vegetable and choice of potatoes.

Tip

Fresh vegetables are fantastic but frozen vegetables are just as good as fresh and keep for longer.  Even tinned vegetables have something to offer.  Always keep some frozen veg in your freezer – that way you will always have some to hand.  Try fresh or frozen broccoli with grilled pork chops or fresh stir-fried veg with pork and noodles.  You can buy frozen ready-to-cook stir fried vegetables in most supermarkets – a great kitchen stand-by.
